Mikoshi Procession in the Snow
Murphy's Law!
The first snowfall of this winter strikes on Otariya festival (春渡祭) that took place today. It happened just when we went to photograph the Mikoshi procession in Utsunomiya downtown.
This is an entry for Show Me Japan Vol 1, Issue 9. If you want to see nice photos taken in Japan, don't forget to visit.
This is also a Sunday In My City entry.
Here is our video.

First snow?! Here already was some snow, but it melted away :(
ReplyDeleteSo far I could not take any good snowy photo this winter.
Your picture is very good, that people go to festival and fight against weather conditions. In the left bottom corner the two policemen is really strange and a little bit funny for me with "light sabers" in their hands :)
Have a nice sunday!
Another image beautifully done. Not only do you give an amazing sense of place and the moment but you've created terrific contrast with the great snow definition (and light) and the right side of the photo. Wow!
ReplyDeleteYes, beutiful image!
ReplyDeleteWe have had the same situation here in Romania, at the National Day, on 1st of December. Snow, cold, windy!
Have a great Sunday, my friend!
Actually the photo turned out very well, although not what you originally had in mind.
ReplyDeleteHad I taken this photo I would be very excited and pleased. I love it Yoshi. I really like your photos, but this one is one of my favorites. Absolutely positively impressively beautiful. It moves me.
ReplyDeleteSnow here also, but much more than you're getting. Great photo. Boom & Gary of thr Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteI love this! It's sort of an old and new combined with Mother Nature doing her thing.
ReplyDeletethe only weird experience i have while i was in NZ, its spring and i snowd suddenly ie heavy snow on the day i supposed to drive 11hrs to christchurch. panic mode.
ReplyDeleteNeat combination of events going on here. Wish it would snow here!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful photo!!
ReplyDeleteThe snow fall made for a beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteReally like this image, the snow and the angle make it a very complex scene with lots of character.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing photograph: beautiful, dynamic, and interesting.
ReplyDeleteEven in the snow it looks amazing! Thanks for sharing the gorgeousness!
ReplyDeleteHappy SIMC, jj
I would love to learn more about the festival. I hope it wasn't too cold for the people walking in the snow!
ReplyDeleteSnow has a way of making all pictures look crispy :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your magnificent picture!
ReplyDeleteAlthough the name of the fesival is "渡春祭", it couldn't invited spring. But, snowfall gives mysterious atomosphere to the festival, doesn't it?
It has snowed all over Japan, not in Nara at all.....
This shot is so amazing! Wonderful the snow effect.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! How much snow on average do you get there, per season I mean.
